"Innovation" is the more formal and systemic term used for the socially constructive uses of Autonomy and Individual Epistemology. It implies that these uses are the exception to the rule: that society views these processes and results favorably; whereas the rule is that almost any use of these processes must be designed to the limits of social standards and obsequious obedience to authority, significant innovations meet with social and authoritative approval despite their defiance of standards, rather than because they uphold those standards. In other words, an innovation is, perhaps grudgingly, recognized as a work of art (techne), in a world long on criticism and short on interpretative ability and artistic taste. P:D
